Internal + external care for perpetual vitality
Cherishing yourself to blossom in your true beauty.
Presence.
You are your own advocate, self-care starts with showing up for yourself within the time that you have. Mindful, intentional practices can help guide you towards healthy, radiant skin and hair. Work with the time your able to give yourself and cherish this time for you by staying present with yourself while you care for your being and appreciate the time you have for you. Allow this sacred time to reduce your stress as you connect to your spirit and give love to your being. I love to incorporate mindfulness into my morning and night routines and flow with focused intention. Taking time to massage your scalp, being gentle with your hair when you detangle and pull it up and being mindful when using your beauty products brings you to the present moment of giving to yourself.
Hormones.
Stress reduction is crucial for healthy hair growth and overall vitality. Your hair is directly related to your hormones, an imbalance can relate to premature shedding and decreased hair density. This can also create an overproduction of sebaceous glands leading to breakouts and an oily scalp. Cortisol from an over production of stress can also lead to collagen degradation which contributes to hair loss, moisture imbalance, and reduced blood flow to your hair follicles. Sleep is another contributing factor to stress and cortisol production. Women need an overwhelming 7-9 hours of sleep to keep a balanced system. Following routines to give your body what it craves is crucial to pursing a harmonious lifestyle.
Scalp.
The product choices you make and the practices you follow are always directly affecting you in the long term. Choosing to take a few minutes to brush your hair to distribute your natural oils and create gentle scalp exfoliation will greatly benefit the density, softness and shine of your hair. Choosing a boar bristle brush when your hair is dry and a wet brush when wet are wonderful choices. If you experience dry scalp, massage your scalp weekly on wash day with grapeseed or jojoba oil. Rosemary oil is a great additive to these oils if you are looking to boost the production of hair growth. Less is more—try to concentrate the oil directly at your scalp. You may require an additional shampoo to remove all of the oil. I love using sustainable products with gentle ingredients to elevate my shower routine. As we choose to nourish our bodies internally, we want to make healthy choices for nourishing our scalp and hair follicles externally as well. Products as well as the care that we take for ourselves makes a noticeable difference in your overall wellbeing and often contributes to stress-reduction.
Skin.
When it comes to the skin on the rest of your body, I find gua-sha and lymphatic drainage movements remind me to take a couple minutes to moisturize and love the skin I’m in. This time is for caring for ourselves with love and attention. Your skin is your largest organ and is very much alive. Your hair is technically dead, since it is a protein that doesn’t contain living cells. Protecting our hair is crucial, and it is always growing. Our skin does regenerate and repair itself, but it is not like our hair where we can cut it off and start fresh. Caring for your skin is crucial and is the base of clean beauty. Healthy hair grows from a nourished scalp, free of buildup and irritation while glowing skin and no-makeup makeup routines stem from clean, hydrated skin. I focus on enhancing and celebrating your natural hues and texture for radiance and vitality that comes from within. This all starts with embracing and cherishing your natural being by giving yourself the gift of self-love.
Embodiment.
With this time focused on you, I find it is easier to check in and notice what your body needs to not only look your best but feel your best. I truly believe these two principles are intertwined. I love to make suggestions for product and routine in my chair while educating so you are able to make informed choices and trust in your knowing of what your body needs. An established routine contributes to healthy skin and hair since our bodies love consistency and often requires time to accept and adapt to the positive changes we make. Flowing within this and connecting with your being allows you to refine what you may require seasonally and based on external factors in your life.
